Gender-Affirming Speech Coaching

  • One-on-one, individualized voice coaching sessions

  • 60 minutes

  • Virtual or in-person (in South Philadelphia)

Voice coaching is great for transgender and nonbinary folks who are looking to align their speaking voice with their gender expression, or are looking for support through HRT-related voice changes.

Just like in a traditional singing lesson, we use functional exercises to build vocal skills and coordinate the voice. But instead of singing songs, we use speech, text, and rehearsals of real-life situations like phone calls and conversations to put the skills into practice.

We'll explore pitch, resonance, inflection, vocal weight, and other expressive qualities. I'll help you set your own goals and guide you through skill building.

  • Nope! Voice work is about adding colors and sounds to your vocal expression, not eliminating sounds that you’re already making.

  • With a few minutes per day of practicing targeted skills, you can expect to notice real changes in your voice in just a few weeks. Many folks continue voice work for 6-18 months to further coordinate the voice, and some folks enjoy voice work so much that they come back again and again. There is no one-size-fits-all equation.

Seasons of life often bring us in and out of the voice studio, so feel free to pop in, try it out, take breaks, and do what works best for you.

Some folks like to do weekly lessons, others come bi-weekly, and some folks pop in for lessons intermittently.

Joining a group can be a great way to practice skills in community with others!

  • That’s okay! In each session, we will explore different vocal qualities, and mindfully check in with how they feel for you.

I’ll help you set goals, and guide you in building skills that give you more freedom and flexibility with your voice.

  • The first session is a great opportunity to check in with your voice, explore your range and other vocal qualities, and set goals. It's a low-stakes, low-pressure environment.

  • Many different things bring us to voice work, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer, but the most meaningful and profound change occurs when you are willing to experiment, try something unfamiliar, and have fun making new sounds!
